SAN FRANCISCO — Rangers forward David Gaggis will be honored at the team’s Opening Night celebration Saturday night, the team announced.
Gaggis was named Rangers Player of the Year after being named the NHL’s top rookie for the second straight season, the club announced Thursday.
The 31-year-old Gagges is tied for second on the club in points with 16, and his 20 goals lead the Rangers with three more than his teammates.
Gagis also was named the AHL’s Player of Year.
The Rangers will be the first team to wear their “Gagner” uniforms at their Opening Night event since the franchise moved to Dallas in the mid-1980s.
The “Gaggi” logo is a tribute to the former NHL player who won the Hart Trophy as the league’s MVP in 1991.
The organization announced the “Giggin’ the Ranger” tribute at its annual awards gala.
